Facial wrinkles typically start occurring during the late twenties and develop through the remainder of our lives.  Wrinkles are caused by the reduction of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin as well as the ability to produce good quality collagen is diminished. In addition to this, skin quality reduces as a result of textural changes, enlarged pores and skin volume loss. Celtic and Caucasian skin types are particularly affected.

Factors that affect the ageing process can be categorised as follows:

Intrinsic Facial Wrinkles

Our genetics often dictate the ageing process and can’t be controlled (i.e. ethnicity and genes).

Extrinsic Facial Wrinkles

These are controlled by our lifestyle (i.e. diet, UV exposure, smoking, stress and poor skincare regimes).
